Cristian Barcan

Sustainability Officer, Rabo AgriFinance

Cristian Barcan is the Sustainability Officer for Rabo AgriFinance, the part of Rabobank that serves U.S. agricultural producers. Cristian leads the company’s sustainability efforts and works with numerous departments to integrate practices that provide data around stewardship, continuous improvement, and showcasing. He also works closely with sustainability teams from other parts of the Rabobank Group and serves on a number of Rabobank global initiatives and external stakeholder groups.

Previously, Cristian served as a Senior Advisor for Value Chain Feed Efficiency at Syngenta and spent 18 years at BASF as Head of Applied Sustainability in North America, South America and Asia Pacific for the nutrition and health business units. While at BASF, Cristian led the implementation of the Beef Checkoff-sponsored beef sustainability project with National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and rolled out over 27 corporate sustainability strategies in 15 countries for global BASF key accounts. Cristian also has experience in Washington, D.C., where he managed as Executive Director the Vinyl Sustainability Council and created a branded sustainability program called +Vantage Vinyl for the U.S. industry.

Cristian has equivalent bachelor’s degree studies in Mathematics and Computer Science and has been a board  member or committee chairman for Sustainable Brands, The Sustainability Consortium, and Green Building Initiative.
